Through this community writing workshop, Digital Publishing Coach Dana Sitar of DIY Writing in cooperation with Dr. Jacque Preston of UVU will lay a foundation for a unique approach to digital media by situating writing as a rhetorical act and demonstrating how you can write for social and digital media to achieve your purpose and reach your audience.

Tues, Oct 29: Adopting a Rhetorical Lens for Writing for Digital Media Contexts - An Introduction
Jacque and Dana will lead a presentation to provide an overview of the rhetorical situation and what it means to approach writing as a rhetorical act. You'll learn how to modify your writing for a specific audience and purpose and have a chance to discuss your goals related to social and digital media.
Thur, Oct 31: Exploring Written Social and Digital Media
Dana will provide an overview of the most common types of social and digital media. We'll provide examples to demonstrate how you can use blogs, ebooks, infoproducts, newsletters, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, and other social media to share your message and reach your audience.
Tues, Nov 5: Exploring Visual, Audio, and Interactive Digital Media – Expanding Your Reach
Dana will demonstrate how you can extend the content you write to reach a greater audience by creating visual, audio, and interactive content. We'll explore various ways you can use video, podcast, online radio, ads, Pinterest, Instagram, chats, Skype, Google+ Hangout, Webinars, and online courses to expand your reach and provide greater value to your audience.
Thur, Nov 7: Digital Publishing -- Design and Development
We'll provide strategies for clarifying your purpose, choosing an appropriate medium, appealing to your audience, understanding cultural and political contexts, and authoring and branding digital content. We'll work together to help you generate ideas on how to use digital publishing in your business or organization, and you'll leave with a template to develop your own digital content strategy.
